Kim Davitt, Corridors of Life Program Coordinator, Northern Wildlands:
The longest employed staff with American Wildlands, Kim has vast experience in conservation as a biologist surveying spotted owls in the Pacific Northwest to serving as a naturalist at Mt. Rainier National Park to working as the Grasslands and Forest Carnivore Campaign coordinator for the Predator Conservation Alliance. She earned a B.A. in History, Colgate University, and an M.A. in History of the American West, University of Montana. Kim joined the staff in September, 1995.

Faye Kommers, Development Director:
Faye brings more than a decade of experience in non-profit fundraising for the Tacoma Art Museum, the Children’s Museum of Seattle, the Montana State University Foundation and Lewis & Clark College. She is a fourth-generation Montanan from Bozeman. Faye earned a B.A. in Communication, University of Puget Sound (1995), and a Certificate of Non-Profit Management, University of Washington (1997). Faye joined the staff in April, 2004.

Elizabeth Williamson, Safe Passages Program Coordinator:

Elizabeth started with American Wildlands in 2001 and is currently our second longest tenured staff. Upon her arrival, she had recently completed her M.S. in Land Resources and Environmental Sciences, Montana State University focusing on spatial analysis applications for invasive plant management. She quickly applied her GIS skills to Northern Rockies habitat connectivity issues and honed her GIS skills through our Corridors of Life and Community GIS programs for the last six years. Aside from GIS, Elizabeth has proven herself a stong group facilitator and leader and has in the past taken the reigns, in our MacDonald Pass and Bozeman Pass working groups efforts. We welcome her in her new role at American Wildlands, as the Safe Passages Coordinator and are excited for her to apply her programmatic talents in this area. Elizabeth also has a B.A. in Geography, University of Vermont (1993).

Catherine Viscardi, Events and Corporate Support Coordinator:
Catherine is originally from the east coast, and was bitten by the conservation bug while working as PR & Office Manager for Q Collection, an ecologically sound furniture company in New York City. A classically trained singer with a B.A. from Vassar College, Catherine enjoyed performing throughout the U.S. and Europe before she decided to jump into the non-profit world feet first, moving from New York and coming to work for American Wildlands. Her past work experience includes fundraising efforts at Portland Opera, Ashlawn Opera, The Michael Lynch Foundation, and Grainne Productions. Happy to have found a new home in the Northern Rockies, Catherine can now attest that the hills are truly alive with the sound of music - and wildlife!

Lisa Bean King, Membership and Administrative Coordinator:
Lisa has returned to Bozeman after earning an M.Ed of Environmental Education from Western Washington University (2007), and a Certificate of Non-Profit Administration and Leadership from the North Cascades Institute in Washington State (2007). Prior to that, Lisa gained five years experience in the non-profit field, including working for the Montana Outdoor Science School in Bozeman. Lisa enjoys spending time outdoors climbing, fishing and hanging out with her dogs. She also holds a B.A. in Geology and Environmental Studies from Whitman College (2002). Lisa joined the staff in November, 2007.

Jessica Hann, Safe Passages Associate:
Jessica recently relocated to Bozeman to pursue her interest in wildlife ecology and the Northern Rockies Ecosystem. She earned a B.S. in Biology from the University of Findlay and a DVM from the University of Wisconsin. Jessica joined the staff in the summer of 2007.

Melinda Monroe, Finance Manager:
Melinda is currently pursuing her bachelors in accounting at Montana State University. She plans on continuing into the masters program of accounting immediately after graduation. Melinda has previous book keeping and payroll experience in small businesses. Born and raised in New Jersey, she has been residing in Montana for the past four years. Melinda enjoys hiking, biking and running.

Board of Directors
Marilynn Cowgill, Board Chair:

Marilynn has worked in the business and corporate world for more than thirty years, and is currently a business consultant who helps troubleshoot and solve critical business problems. Although she currently lives in the eastern United States, Marilynn grew up in Colorado and has a “passion for the Rocky Mountains, in any form, season, or activity.”
Seth Wilson:

Seth lives in Missoula, Montana, where he is a professor of environmental studies at the University of Montana. He is a recognized expert on the life cycle, habits and habitat of grizzly bears in the Northern Rockies. Seth joined the Board in June, 2005.
Ryan Wilson:

Ryan owns and operates Rockford Coffee in Bozeman, Montana. He is proud to be a small business owner and looks forward to growing the business within Montana. His background is in sociology and business with a MBA in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix. Ryan joined the board in January, 2008.
April Johnston, Conservation Director:
April brings 10 years of technical and policy experience with restoration/conservation science to American Wildlands. After spending the last 16 years studying and working in and around the Florida Everglades, April relocated to Bozeman to fulfill a long-time goal of living in the Northern Rockies. When not working for the environment, April spends time enjoying the mountains with her horses and dog. April obtained a B.S in biology and marine biology from Palm Beach Atlantic University in 1995, and went on to earn a M.S. in Biological Sciences from Florida Atlantic University in 2001.

Sarah Olimb, GIS Lab Manager/Community GIS Program Coordinator:
Originally from Georgia, Sarah moved to Bozeman after earning a B.S. in Population and Conservation Ecology from the University of Georgia and a M.S. in Biology and GISc Certificate from the University of North Dakota. Sarah's past conservation experience includes habitat modeling of Allegheny Woodrats in West Virginia, marine biogeochemistry analyses in the coastal salt marshes of Georgia, and mammalogy/ornithology/herpetology research in the Savannah River longleaf pine forests of South Carolina. Sarah has been with American Wildlands since June, 2006.

Joy Ritter, GIS Specialist:
Joy moved to Bozeman from Fairbanks, Alaska after completing her M.S. in Wildlife Biology. Her conservation experience includes studies on Peregrine falcon, voles in Denali National Park, and antelope fawns. In addition to her conservation interests, Joy is also an avid cyclist and skier.

Tom Skeele, Executive Director:
Tom brings 24 years experience as a conservation leader, environmental educator and wilderness guide to American Wildlands. In 1991, Tom co-founded the Bozeman-based Predator Conservation Alliance, which he led for 14 years. He earned a B.S. in Recreation and Park Management, with an emphasis on Outdoor Education, at the University of Oregon (1982). He is a Board member of the Bozeman-based Wild Things Unlimited, and has previously served on the Board of the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative and Wildlands Center for Preventing Roads. Tom joined the staff in September, 2005.

Jim Roscoe, Corridors of Life - High Divide:
Jim has recently completed a 32-year career as wildlife biologist with the BLM in Dillon, Montana. His worked has included the reintroduction of wolves, peregrine falcons and bighorn sheep in the area, a major sage grouse telemetry study, extensive riparian inventory and monitoring, constructing several wetland development projects, and widespread planning and coordination necessary for managing the wide diversity of wildlife habitat found on public lands in southwest Montana. Jim’s personal interests and activities include birding, distance running, and raising/training Quarter horses, and spending as much time in the hills as possible. Jim received a B.S degree in Wildlife Management from Colorado State University (1973) and a M.S. degree also from CSU in Fishery Biology (thesis - Systematics of westslope cutthroat trout, 1974).

Julie Betsch, GIS Apprentice:
Julie has 8 years of field experience in conservation and wildlife biology with an emphasis on non-invasive methods to study large carnivores. Most recently she was employed by the Center for Conservation Biology of the University of Washington, where she trained dogs to find scat samples from endangered species. Some studies she has contributed to include population assessments of puma and grizzly in the Northern Rockies and response of wolf and caribou populations to oil development in north-eastern Alberta. She is currently working on a diet analysis of puma and jaguar from scat samples collected in central Brazil. Julie received her B.S. in Biology from the University of Cincinnati in 2000.

Bill Stoddart, Secretary/Treasurer:
Originally from New York State, Bill is a graduate of Cornell University, but made the move to Montana shortly after graduation. He has been a resident of Bozeman for the past 15 years, 8 of which were spent teaching History and Political Science at Bozeman High School. Now a financial consultant for D.A. Davidson in Bozeman, Bill has built his practice with a focus on socially responsible investing.
Justin Bigart, Vice-Chair:
Justin is co-founder of Sage Spa Living, with locations across Montana. Prior to Sage, he was a software developer as well as a founding member of a technology consulting firm in San Francisco and a Montana non-profit.
