Strengthening the Conservation Community's Ability to Advocate and Communicate
Through our Community GIS Services program, American Wildlands is building connections within the greater conservation community. We start by connecting conservation organizations from across the U.S. Northern Rockies with the benefits of Geographic Information System (GIS) computer modeling, analysis, and mapping. Then, by sharing our GIS expertise and products, we create a network of information and services that supports conservation activities throughout the region. And we provide all of this at below-market costs or on a pro-bono basis.
The costs of commercial GIS services, or establishing one's own GIS lab, are prohibitive for most conservation groups. AWL's Community GIS Services program provides this valuable technical service, one that helps strengthen an organization's conservation and communications programs, at a cost every organization can afford. Our staff's combined experience in GIS modeling and conservation policy means we are able to create GIS products that are not only strategically conceived and scientifically defensible, but are visually compelling as well. And our new GIS Apprentice program provides on-the job training and experience for the next generation of conservationists.

The GIS Lab
The Community GIS Program is a component of the GIS Lab at American Wildlands. American Wildlands has been using GIS in its conservation work for over a decade. Through our Corridors of Life, Safe Passages, and Living Waters programs, we’ve polished our skills and expertise at producing and applying GIS products to develop strategy and communicate with agencies, citizens, businesses, and public-interest groups.
