We all want to leave behind something meaningful for future generations. That's one of the great attractions of conservation work -- knowing that your efforts will reap rewards in posterity.

American Wildlands wants to apply that principle to our development program by seeking new ways our supporters can help our vital conservation work continue long into the future in significant ways.

Legacy, or planned giving, is the structuring of a gift to a nonprofit organization that address the financial and tax needs of the donor. There are many different ways to do this:

Create a Charitable Annuity or Trusts

These gifts provide current or future income to American Wildlands through charitable remainder trusts and gift annuities. Such donations often increase your spendable income while helping American Wildlands.

Give Appreciated or Depreciated Stock or Property

If you donate stock to American Wildlands, you can avoid paying taxes on the increased value and you can deduct the current market value from your taxes. With depreciated stock, you sell the shares first then donate the cash proceeds to American Wildlands. You can then use your capital loss on the sale to offset capital gains or reduce your ordinary taxable income.

Make a Charitable Bequest

Making a bequest in your will to American Wildlands allows you to maintain current assets and reduce your eventual estate taxes. You can also make American Wildlands a beneficiary of your retirement plan or life insurance policy. These actions help assure that your assets are used in a way that honors your values.

Designate an Endowment Gift

A gift to American Wildlands’ endowment can help reduce your taxes and, over time, increase our efforts to preserve the natural environment.

Stock Giving Information
